This is a marvellous area for exploring rural Provence ,Gard and the Cevennes. Avignon to the south is only 20 minutes drive and is a bustling town famous for the Palais des Papes and its famous bridge over the Rhone. Further north is Orange,Pont du Gard ( the Roman aquaduct ) and Nimes, home to one of the oldest bull rings in Europe, and nearer still the enchanting old town of Uzes ( 15 minutes drive ) with its Ducal Palace and little winding cobble streets full of interesting antique shops and cafe restaurants. The actual village is tiny but has an extremely decent local restaurant, general store, tabac for newspapers, boulangerie and excellent hairdressers. There is a most wonderful brocante market at Villeneuve les Avignon every Saturday morning where locals buy plates of oysters washed down with icy Pic Poul white wine in the Provencal square.
